IBM described the faster processor in the world
IBM announced details of the processor z196, which should be the fastest processor in the world. Clock frequency of this chip will be 5.2 gigahertz, says PC Mag.
During his speech at a computer conference Hot Chips IBM engineer Brian Curran said that the chip will be targeted for use in mainframe Z-series. Deliveries of the processor will begin in September, and the cost of ready-made systems on its base reaches a million dollars.

This chip is designed for CISC architecture and is targeted at decision-intensive tasks. Z196 has 1.4 billion transistors and is manufactured using 45-nanometer process technology. The area of the processor is 512 square millimeters. Curran said that the chip uses a set of 1079 different instructions.

After his release Z196 will select the title of fastest microprocessor in the world in another chip IBM - Power6. Clock frequency of the current record holder reaches 4.7 gigahertz.
