In the third round matches, the last evening of Sept. 4, local time (early morning of September 5, Moscow time), Zvonareva beat Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru with a score of 6:2, 7:6 (7:2), and Kuznetsova beat compatriot Maria Kirilenko 6: 3, 6:4.
In 1 / 8 finals US Open Vera Zvonareva will meet with Andrew Petkovic of Germany, and Svetlana Kuznetsova - with Dominika Cibulková from Slovakia.
In the fourth round except Zvonareva and Kuznetsova also went Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Sharapova will meet with Dane Caroline Wozniacki, Pavlyuchenkova will fight for access to the quarterfinals with Francesca Schiavone of Italy, and Dementieva - with Australian Samantha Stosur.
In the men's singles U.S. Open tennis was the only representative of Russia - Mikhail Youzhny. In the third round match of the South meets the American John Isner.
